Color flow Doppler echocardiogram

Left apical four chamber view

In this image the chamber filled with color at the top of the image is the right ventricle and the structure at the bottom of the image is the right atrium. The frame is recorded in systole and shows tricuspid regurgitation.

Continuous wave Doppler

Using the above color flow Doppler view, a continuous wave Doppler cursor was placed across the region of turbulent flow to measure the peak systolic velocity of flow into the right atrium. As can be seen in the upper left hand corner, the peak velocity was approximately 5 meters/second. Using the modified Bernoulli equation, a pressure gradient between the right ventricle and the right atrium was calculated to be 103 mmHg.
