Case 27Pictures from another dog receiving a melarsomine injectionShaved areas over the back where injections will be made
Injection of melarsomine into the left paralumbar epaxial musculature
Following the injection, a finger should be placed over the injection site and pressed down firmly for a minute or so to prevent leakage of the compound back into the subcutaneous tissue. Melarsomine can produce a marked irritant response if it is allowed to pool in this tissue. After injection into skeletal muscle, approximately 50% of the drug is absorbed within 5 minutes.
