Case 3Two-dimensional Echocardiograms
This long-axis view from a right parasternal position shows three cardiac chambers and the aorta. The left ventricular end-diastolic diameter was 31mm (normal is 25-30 mm for this size dog), the end-systolic diameter was 20 mm (normal is 15-20 mm), and so the shortening fraction was 37% (normal). The left atrium was mildly enlarged when compared to the size of the aorta. Left ventricular wall thicknesses were normal. The arrow points to an abnormality. LA - left atrial cavity; LV - left ventricular cavity; RV - right ventricular cavity; AO - aorta.
The above picture shows the approximate orientation of the echocardiogram from this dog.
