Case 7Spectral Doppler
This is a continuous wave Doppler tracing taken with the transducer placed over the right ventricle (RV) and the ultrasound beam positioned across the pulmonic valve region. The peak velocity in systole is 7.25 meters/second (normal is around 1 meter/second). The ultrasound machine has used the modified Bernoulli equation to calculate the pressure gradient across this region to be 210 mm Hg.
Similarly, the continuous wave Doppler beam has been positioned across the tricuspid valve (with the transducer on the left side of the dog) to record a similar peak systolic velocity and similar pressure gradient.
