bulletTwo-year-old FS Maine coon cat weighing 4.4 kg ("Kassie")

Presenting Complaint

bulletCardiac evaluation for possible hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (heart murmur)

Pertinent History

bulletThe referring DVM ausculted a murmur during the last yearly examination.
bulletEKG from referring DVM was normal; referral radiographs showed enlarged pulmonary vasculature and generalized cardiomegaly.
bulletThe owner reports that Kassie is a very active cat.

Physical Examination

bulletT - 101.3; P - 160, R - 24.
bulletGENERAL: QARH. BCS 5/9. 
bulletINTEGUMENT: Thick coat; no scaling or alopecia. Lots of shedding.
bulletEENT: Eyes- clear corneas and anterior chambers. Very mild episcleral injection.
bulletMild mucked epiphora bilaterally. Ears are clean. Nose is moist and clean. Mouth-
slight halitosis. No noticeable calculus on teeth.
bulletMS: Well-muscled.
bulletCARDIOVASCULAR: Mucous membranes are pink and moist. CRT=1 sec. Femoral pulses within
normal limits. IV/VI right-sided systolic murmur.
bulletRESPIRATORY: Left side auscults clear; did not check the right side.
bulletGI: No masses or organomegaly. Smooth gut loops.
bulletGU: Both kidneys are smooth; bladder is lemon-sized and smooth-walled.
bulletNERVOUS: Not examined.
bulletLN: Mandibular, prescapular, and popliteal not palpable.
