The Equine Emergency and Disaster Symposium on April 24th was a huge success.  Almost 200 people attended to hear lectures and watch emergency rescue demonstrations.  Dr. John Madigan and Dr. Larry Galuppo from the UCD School of Veterinary Medicine talked about emergency rescues and splinting broken legs while members of the Felton Fire Department talked about past rescues and methods for overturned trailer rescue.  The Alta Loma Riding club talked about their experiences during the Southern California fires of October 2003 and the Yolo County Office of Emergency Services director gave information needed by groups hoping to incorporate themselves with declared disasters.  Below are just a few pictures taken from the demonstrations by the Felton Fire Department and the UCD Veterinary Emergency Response Team.  Felton rescued a rubber horse from an overturned trailer and then up righted the trailer.  VERT showed how our rescue trailer can be used to move down horses, we had the public debut of the UCD Equine Extraction Device (visit the LART site for more information), showed how to put on the UCD Anderson Sling, and then we airlifted a plastic horse with a helicopter.
