We would like to thank Land 'O Lakes for donating milk replacer for the orphan lambs.  In addition, we would like to thank Windmill Feeds and Duane Chamberlain for donating grain to the lambs once they are weaned from their bottle-fed milk.

For those of you wondering where the lambs go after they are born, here is a great article that should shed some light.

We raised about $10,000 for the two sheep ranchers that suffered huge losses one month ago today.  VERT would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to all of those volunteers who made this benefit possible.  Additionally, we could not have raised as much money as we did without the support of local ranchers with their sheep dogs, local businesses, and Fort Dodge.  Fort Dodge donated a substantial amount of money for food to be cooked and sold by the vet school's Farm Club.  In addition to Fort Dodge, the following businesses donated services and goods for our raffle and silent auction:
Les Schwab
Diamond E
ZarZana Wildlife and Western Art
Nugget Market
Guadalajara taqueria
Peet's Coffee
Jamba Juice
Petco
Davisville Express Lube
California Woolgrowers
UCD Med-Sci Bookstore
Watermelon Music
Armadillo Music
Starbucks
Baskin Robbins
Ground Zero Board Shop
Mustard Seed
Chipotle
Little Prague

Unfortunately, yesterday we had to perform a number of C-sections on ewes that were suffering and needed to be euthanized.  We were able to sucessfully deliver 4 lambs, including a set of twins, bringing our total of surviving lambs to 8 so far.

Within the past few days, we have discontinued our regular, daily treatments of all sheep and are now evaluating the sheep daily and treating sheep that need our assistance.  Yesterday, we successfully delivered a little ewe lamb (named Zamora) after her mother, unfortunately, had to be euthanized.  Amid all of the heartbreak and hard work we have faced over the past two weeks, Zamora's birth has lifted all of our spirits.  There is a picture of her below.

A link to a Woodland Daily Democrat article on the continuing efforts to treat the sheep can be found here.

More pictures have been posted below.  We continue our daily treatments of the herds affected by the Sept. 22nd fires.  As always, we are heartened by those sheep continuing to improve and deeply saddened by those sheep that are clearly suffering, making their euthanasia necessary.  Due to the extensive losses  of sheep, which are the livelihood for these ranchers, a relief fund has been set-up to help the ranchers re-establish their herds.  If you would like to help the ranchers, an address to send donations can be found within this flier.  PLEASE DO NOT send donations for the ranchers to the veterinary school!

The recent firestorm, fueled by 50mph+ winds, devastated several herds of sheep in Yolo County.  VERT has been working tirelessly over the past few days to treat those sheep that can be saved.  Unfortunately, many of the sheep have sustained horribly painful burns and have had to be euthanized.  We are trying to avoid this by doing everything that we can for the surviving sheep.  VERT is donating all of the medications and services to the herdsmen by using our limited grant and donation money.  With all of the local media attention, we have been asked how people can donate money to help VERT.  If you would like to donate to VERT  to help us continue to treat these herds, as well has have the ability to respond to disasters in the future, you can send a check made out to "UC Regents (for VERT)"  to either of the following addresses.  All donations are tax-deductible.
