About Northern California

The 5,200 acre campus lies adjacent to the city of Davis, 15 miles west of Sacramento, the State's capitol, and 72 miles northeast of San Francisco. A wide array of recreational and cultural opportunities are available nearby to include California's renowned wine country an hour to the west, San Francisco an hour and a half to the southwest, California's rugged north coast and the giant redwoods two hours to the northwest, Yosemite National Park three hours to the south, and Lake Tahoe and mountain recreation just two hours to the east.

Northern California is farm country, and Davis is set amidst fields of alfalfa, corn, tomatoes and grains, with walnut and almond orchards a few miles west. There is great bike riding around Davis and trout fishing and hiking 25 minutes west in the Coast Range hills. Delta breezes bring cooling marine air to the the typical summer day temperature of 85 - 95 F, dropping the night-time and early morning temperatures to 55 to 60 F. The low humidity of summer makes the climate very livable. Winter brings the cool rainy season, with temperatures typically 40 F to 65 F. Skiers and snow boarders find plenty of great snow above 6000 feet in the Sierra.
