In 1946, the School of Veterinary Medicine was established on the Davis campus. In 1948, ground was broken for Haring Hall, and the first class of 42 veterinary students was accepted into the DVM curriculum. Since that time, the School has graduated more than 3,500 Doctors of Veterinary Medicine. Current class size in the 4 year curriculum is 122 students per year. The School has developed another professional degree program, offering the Master of Preventive Veterinary Medicine degree, and has established outstanding graduate academic (MS and PhD) and graduate clinical residency programs. The School also offers a myriad of research and service activities covering a broad spectrum of biomedical and applied sciences, including an outstanding Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Today a faculty of 230 and a staff of more than 700 have expanded the scope and scale of the School's programs to make it the largest and most diverse school of veterinary medicine in the world.
