Founded in 1905, the UC Davis campus has emerged as an acknowledged leader in the fields of agricultural, biological and environmental sciences, and is gaining similar recognition for excellence in the arts, humanities, social sciences, engineering, health sciences, law and management. UC Davis offers more than 100 undergraduate majors and 80 graduate programs, as well as the professional schools of law, management, medicine, and veterinary medicine. The UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento provides additional research and learning opportunities for students of medicine and veterinary medicine alike. The General Library is ranked among the top research libraries in North America, contains more than 26 million volumes, and comprises 5 units, including the Health Sciences Library. The University Arboretum provides a scenic and peaceful setting, as well as an outdoor classroom and laboratory for teaching and research. Various museums and galleries house valuable teaching and research collections, and a wide range of performing arts programs take place throughout the year. UC Davis Presents and the Mondavi Center for Performing Arts bring internationally known artists in music, drama, dance and other art forms to perform on campus annually, and sponsors lectures by nationally known figures.
