In one distinct way, we are different from a private veterinary practice or hospital. Teaching is our middle name, and as our name implies, the VMTH is a teaching hospital. Veterinary medical students will assist in diagnosing and treating your animal under the direct guidance of a staff veterinarian. Consequently, an appointment at the VMTH will probably be more time consuming than one with your local veterinarian. You should be prepared to spend at least 90 minutes at the VMTH after your appointment begins, and if extensive testing is required, it may be necessary to spend as much as a full day with us.
Teaching veterinary students is one of our primary missions, and it is essential that they be involved in providing veterinary care at the VMTH. Each student is closely supervised by a veterinarian in order to insure that he/she receives proper training, and that your animal is given the best possible care. We believe that, in the long run, both you and your animal benefit from this extra attention.
