Background
Frank Verstraete graduated as a veterinarian at the University of Gent (Belgium) in 1980. He pursued his graduate studies at the University of Pretoria (South Africa) where he completed a residency in small animal surgery and became board-certified in surgery in 1985. At Pretoria University he joined the faculty, started a Dental Clinic in 1982, and in 1988 he was appointed Associate Professor of Surgery and Head of the Small Animal Surgery Section.

Since the end of 1994, Dr. Verstraete has been affiliated with the University of California at Davis, where he currently is Professor and Chief of the Dentistry & Oral Surgery Service. He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Stomatology, Division of Oral Medicine, Pathology and Radiology, at the School of Dentistry of the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Verstraete's main clinical research interests include:

• Oral radiology
• Oral surgery
• Dentistry in horses, rabbits, and rodents
