Andrea S. Engwis,
Andrea completed her B.S. degree in 2006 from UC Davis. Andrea has worked as a veterinary technician for the past 8 years and started working as the neurology/neurosurgery service technician in mid November of 2007. Andrea has also worked in the radiology and oncology departments at UCD as an undergraduate. Andrea hopes to attend veterinary school in the near future and then complete a residency program in orthopedics/orthopedic surgery. One aspect of brain function that has always intrigued Andrea is memory and how the brain retains information.

Among Andrea's other interests are dancing, especially the tango, dog shows, fashion, photography, film, music, theatre, taveling and the loves of her life, her two dogs and cat. Her other passion is paleontology with a focused interest on dinosaur evolution and the evolution of flight in birds.
   
Toni Beelard,
Neurology/Neurosurgery Service Coordinator. Toni has been working at the VMTH since 1998, her first position was with the Small Animal Cashiers Office, then she moved on to Admisssions. In 2006 she accepted the position of Neurology/Neurosurgery Service Coordinator. Prior to working at the VMTH she was the office manager of a private veterinary practice for 8 years.

Toni enjoys working with owners, referring veterinarians, faculty, residents and students. One of her main goals is to improve communication between owners and veterinarians. She has respect for the special bond owners have with their pets and wants to help clients achieve the best possible health care for their companions.

Outside of the hospital, Toni has a passion for showing & breeding Bernese Mountain Dogs
   
Jane Gunderson, Neurology Ward Technician
Jane completed a BA degree from California State University Sacramento in 1972 and achieved her RVT certification from Cosumnes River College in 1974. Jane worked as a technician in a small animal practice for three years before joining the VMTH at UC Davis in 1977. Jane has worked almost exclusively with Neurology/Neurosurgery patients for more than 25 years.

Jane's main interests are nursing care of Neurology/Neurosurgery patients and student and resident teaching.

Jane has a German Shorthaired Pointer named Gunny.
   
kathleen image Kathleen Pinkston, R.V.T., B.S. Neurology/Neurosurgery Service Coordinator

Kathleen moved to California in 1993 and received her A.S. degree at Yuba college for completing the Veterinary Technician Program. She obtained her RVT license in 1996. Kathleen went on to obtain a B.S. degree in Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry from Chico State University. Her love of working with animals drew her to continue working with animals rather than in a science lab. She started work at the VMTH in January 2000. Kathleen has worked in several departments over the years and enjoyed every one of them.

Kathleen has 4 pets. A corgie/dachsund (Sophie), a yorkie (Cady), a maine coon (Mischeif), and a DLH (Xerox).

   
Colette Williams, Staff Research Associate III
Colette received her BS in Zoology from the University of California-Davis in 1980 and commenced employment at the VMTH, UC Davis in 1982 as an electrodiagnostic technician. In 1995, she started work in the Neuromuscular Diseases Laboratory and also was accepted into graduate school (comparative pathology). Colette's PhD studies involve the investigation of the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the normal equine electroencephalogram during arousal, spontaneous sleep, general anesthesia and drug-induced alterations of consciousness. While continuing her doctoral studies, Colette works in the Neuromuscular Disease and Electrophysiology Laboratories. Colette has co-authored 3 papers with Dr. Holliday.
Colette's research interests include electroencephalography and hearing disorders.

She owns a cattle dog named Keegan, who is deaf in one ear.

Colette's son, Justin, is a medical student.
   
stacey image Stacey Peters Zindel, Small Animal Specialties Supervisor
Stacey obtained her BA degree in Anthropology from the University of California at Davis in 1987. She began working at the VMTH, Small Animal Clinic, during her undergraduate studies. Following the birth of her daughter Stacey stayed home with her for several years. In 1994 Stacey received her RVT certification at which time she began working at a private clinic in the Sacramento area. In 1997 she returned to the VMTH having accepted a position as an RVT in the Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service. During her eight years with the service Stacey instructed veterinary students, in both clinical and laboratory settings, dental radiography, oral examination and charting, cleaning and polishing. She has also co-instructed several Continuing Education courses for veterinary technicians. In 2004 Stacey accepted a new position at the VMTH as Small Animal Specialties Supervisor in the areas of Dentistry and Oral Surgery, Neurology and Neurosurgery, and Nutrition.
